1994 Football State Champions
The 1994 Frontenac football team captured the school’s first ever state football championship by defeating Stockton, 13-12, in Hays, Kansas. The team was led by head coach Leon Miller as the Raiders went a perfect 13-0 on the season for the 2-1A crown. This team is going into the 2024 Hall of Fame Class exactly 30 years after winning that state title.
The Raiders had been to four previous title games and came away with a runner-up finish in 1969, 1981,1987 and 1992.
Led by a high-power rushing attack on offense, Frontenac averaged 36 points per game, blowing out most of their regular season competition.
The defense, led by defensive coordinator John Palumbo, had four shutouts and allowed seven or less points in nine of the 13 games. FHS did not allow any more than 18 points in any game, and only allowed 37 total combined points in the nine regular season games before playoffs.
FHS defeated Colgan for the district championship to earn a playoff berth, where they went on to beat Olpe, Garden Plain, Frankfort, and finally Stockton, to capture the crown.
To many in the media, the 1994 Frontenac team is considered one of the best 2-1A teams of all-time. As of September 2024, it is still the only state football title in school history.
