2012 Raider Baseball State Championship Team

Inducted 2025

The 2012 Frontenac High School baseball team captured the school’s first-ever state championship in baseball history. Led by head coach Bill Sullivan, with assistants Jeremy Rakes and James Hartzfeld, the Raiders defeated Silver Lake (5–2), Humboldt (5–1), and Wellsville (12–2) in Manhattan, Kansas, finishing their remarkable season with a 24–2 record.

The team’s success was built on a dominant pitching staff and a defense that was second to none. Over the course of the season, they allowed only 47 total runs—less than two per game—an achievement that reflected their discipline, preparation, and relentless drive to compete.

That season also carried a deeper meaning. The Raiders dedicated their play to the memory of two beloved mothers, Virginia Macary and Tammy Edge, who had passed away during the year. The players honored them as their “Angels in the Outfield,” drawing strength and inspiration from their legacy of love and support.

This group of young men was more than just a team—they were like brothers. They played for one another, pushed each other to be better, and shared a passion for the game that fueled their championship run. Every time they stepped on the field, they expected to win and knew exactly what it would take to make that happen. Their hard work, determination, and bond carried them all the way to their ultimate goal: becoming the first state baseball champions in Frontenac history.
