Commissioner’s Award 2023

Commissioner’s Award 2023

For the fifth straight year the Frontenac School District has earned the Kansas Department of Education Commissioner’s Award.  It is the third time that the district has been awarded the “highest distinction” recognition as one of the top school districts in the State of Kansas.  This year Frontenac shares that honor with five other school districts from around the state.  Frontenac is the only southeast Kansas district, and the largest district in the state to earn the highest honor.

Dr. Randy Watson, Commissioner of Education for the State Kansas and the Kansas State Board of Education, announces these awards each year.  School districts who are recognized have shown excellence in areas that support the state’s vision of “Kansas leads the world in the success of each student.”  This focus is on academic excellence as well as providing the work and social skills necessary for students to succeed after high school.

The Commissioner’s Award was started in 2019.  Graduation rate, academic preparedness rate, the completion of occupational certificates and postsecondary academic success make up a large portion of the data reviewed by the state.  Frontenac graduates rank high in these areas.  We have a high percentage of graduates who go on to complete and earn certifications in many occupations, as well as complete academic schooling that is two years or more after high school.
